Helping the Bribie Island Community

ROBBERY- A SAD EVENT

Posted on | May 12, 2013 | Comments Off on ROBBERY- A SAD EVENT

It is very sad to have to advise that last month an individual broke into our truck and literally emptied it of all the items, also all the donations that had been left by generous residents were also stolen.  It is very sad that someone who lives among us feels that it is a great idea to steal from a charity, especially one that only supports the local residents. We wish to thank and acknowledge the hard work of the Bribie Island Police who located some of the items stolen.  Due to this incident we have had to increase security once again, using funds that could have been used for more worthy purposes.

Winter is just about here and we have a wide range of winter clothes and Jeans available, we also have scarves and gloves.  The book area has many new donations with a wide variety of titles and authors, so come along and browse.

As always we have a need for more volunteers, so if you can spare some time and wish to make new friends, while helping your community please give Sonia a call on 34081014.  It is Volunteers Week (10th May) and we would like to take this opportunity to thank our wonderful volunteers for all their support and hard work – THANK YOU.

Please remember donations are always welcome and it they are bulky please give us a call and we will pick them up.

This October is the 50th anniversary of the opening of the bridge 1963. There will be a lot of celebrating, so please keep a lookout for functions that will be happening during that month commencing the 19th October. Busy Fingers hopes to participate in the Island’s parade and also have a fashion parade during that week. We will start advertising our involvement in August, we hope you will be able to come along and join us in the festivities.

Have a Great Day

DONATIONS AND VOLUNTEERS

Posted on | April 18, 2013 | Comments Off on DONATIONS AND VOLUNTEERS

The shop is open from 8.30 to 3 Mon to Friday and also 8am to 12 on Saturdays, but we have staff there from 7 am this may be a good time to drop off donations. Recently we have had problems with donations that have been dropped off after hours being stolen. We have taken steps to try and minimise this problem but it would be preferable to have donations dropped off during working hours, if this is at all possible,  this would also allow you to shop at the same time.  Remember bulky or heavy items can be picked up free of charge by calling 34081014.

Once again, we are putting out a call for volunteers both male and female.  We are desperately in need of more men. If you can spare a little time – even a morning or afternoon please come and see our manager Sonia or call her on 34081014.  It is a great way of meeting new friends, having a few laughs while giving back to your community.  We are an approved volunteer agent by Centrelink for any work for Newstart programs.

With winter approaching,  we have a 50% off Heaters and Jeans Sale , we have also started stocking the shop with winter clothing.  We  have books $5.00 a bag, so come along a see what bargains we have to offer.

We would also like to take this opportunity to THANK YOU for your support, without you would could not support the many schools and associations on the island.  Recently we have donated a new bus for the Retirement Village, outdoor musical instruments for BI Kindy, take home reading books for the BI primary school and a donation towards the Diabetes Support group for ‘Camp for Kids’.

Have a Great Day

Busy Fingers has many supporting businesses that look after us throughout  the year, and we would like to take this opportunity to thank them for all their help this year.

Jordan from EzyP.C. Sales 0414327045 who looks after all our computer and printer needs.   We also have Ron from RJB Electrical  0422448141, Ron has gone out of his way to accommadate us after hours.  Don from Island Signs on 34081151 has been busy this year making up a lot of new signs for us.  John from Unit Plaques and Trophies on 34082444 continuing makes our name tags for our valued volunteers and most recently has made 2 beautiful plaques for our beloved Alma and Denice who have just retired after over 20 years service with us.

Last friday we had a farewell lunch for Alma and Denice and we asked Shane and Susan Shepherd of Bongaree Hot Bread  34081109 to cater for us. The feedback we received about the beautiful lunch has been fantastic and I am certain that we will be calling Shane and Susan again for our next function. We would also like to thank Lisa France MP and Gary Parsons Councillor for attending  the  luncheon  and presenting the ladies with their plaques.

Busy Fingers has donated to a lot of organisations and schools this past 3 months and we have a board in the shop listing these donations for you to see.

This week we have children’s books on special at $5 a bag, also lighting and lamp shades are 50% off marked price, so come along and see what we have for you.

Busy Fingers get busy with a new logo and website

Well we’ve decided to jump in feet first with a new website. Well actually, its our first website.
We felt the need to keep everyone informed of our work and also let people know of some of our latest donations and gifts to the local community. Its also good to know where our money is being used and how it is helping those community groups and individuals to provide a better service.

We’re very excited about keeping all our community up to date with whats happening at Busy Fingers. If you are an individual who has donated to some of our very worthy causes, we thank you. Keep those donated goods coming in and we can keep giving back something to our community.

Keep coming back to see our latest offerings and keep up to date with all our latest news.
